About two-factor authentication
Two‑factor authentication (2FA) helps keep your Vrbo account safe. When you sign in, 2FA asks you to confirm it’s really you by using two things: your password and a verification code sent to your phone.
This extra step protects your account from unauthorized access, especially if someone tries to sign in from a new or unfamiliar device. It’s quick, adds strong security, and helps keep your information protected.
How it works
Before you can use 2FA, follow the setup instructions below to add a phone number to your Vrbo account.
Once you set up 2FA:
- Each time you sign in from a new, different, or unrecognized device, we’ll ask you to verify your identity.
- You’ll receive a one‑time code by text message or automated phone call.
- Entering this code confirms it’s you and allows you to continue logging in to your Vrbo account.
You won’t need to do this every time—just when the system detects a device it doesn’t recognize.
Set up two-factor authentication
- Sign in to your Vrbo Owner Dashboard.
- At the top of the page, select the account icon, then choose Account settings.
- Select Security.
- Under Account protection, find Two-factor authentication.
- Select Edit.
- Enter a Phone Number that can receive text messages.
- Note: Vrbo Support also uses this number to verify you when you contact us.
- Choose how you’d like to get your verification code: Automated phone call or Text message (SMS).
- Select Send code.
Verification tips and troubleshooting
- Code delivery timing: It may take up to 1 minute for the verification code to arrive.
- Code expiration: Codes are valid for 30 minutes. If it expires, request a new one.
- Incorrect code attempts: For your security, your account locks after five incorrect entries.
- Locked out? If you can’t access your account, go to the bottom of this page and select Contact Us to reach our support team.
