Vrbo photo guidelines
Listing photos
High-quality photos are critical to the success of your listing. Our platform includes a feature that flags photos not meeting our requirements.
Photos that you've uploaded may undergo rejection or editing if they fail to comply with the following guidelines:
- Minimum quality resolution: 1024 x 683 pixels
- Best quality resolution: 3840 x 2160 pixels or higher
- Maximum file size: 20 MB
- Supported formats: JPEG/JPG, PNG or GIF
- Desired photo quality: Sharp, well-lit, high-resolution photos
- Photo orientation: Horizontal (landscape) display
Photos with the following characteristics will not be accepted:
- Area maps
- Black and white
- Blank, duplicated, or near duplicates of other photos
- Blurry (hint: avoid taking photos in Portrait Mode, which adds blurriness)
- Captions that violate our Partner Provided Content Policy
- Close-ups of a plant
- Collages of multiple photos or multiple listings
- Copied from another listing
- Copyrighted material
- Depicts subjects or scenes unrelated to your property or area
- Inappropriateness
- License plates
- Portrait orientation
- QR codes
- Something other than a photo, such as a document, certificate, illustration, or poster
- Text of any kind (including text overlays, URL, or contact information)
- Watermarked with logos or borders
How will know if a photo was not accepted?
If you use the Vrbo platform to update your listing content, photos that do not meet our guidelines will show as “rejected photos” in your Vrbo dashboard (under Edit Property, then Photos). If you are integrated with software, photos that do not meet our guidelines will show as integration errors in your daily integration audit report or within your software directly.
Troubleshooting
If you’re having trouble uploading photos to your listing, here are some things you can try:
- Verify that your photos are in the correct format (.jpg, jpeg, png, or gif)
- Verify that the file size doesn’t exceed 20MB
- Verify that the file is at least 1024 x 683 pixels
Note: Any changes to your photos can take up to 10 minutes to display on the guest-facing website (this does not apply to partners who have integrated with software).
Important: You should always have at least 6 photos published for your property at all times. Having less than 6 photos for more than 30 days can result in an indefinite suspension penalty. If you have a multi-unit property, these photos must include the following categories:
- 1 building exterior photo
- 1 interior or lobby photo
- 3 guestroom photos
- 1 bathroom photo
